Planning a trip to The Dells, need help with fishing the area.

Recommended Posts

Hey there fellas, we are thinkgin of making a trip to the Dells this summer. I have not been there since I was very young and I remember it was great then. Taking the family and with any luck taking the River Pro.

Any good fishing in that area and maybe some Catfish in the waters there?

It sure sounds like fun and with any luck good fishing or at least awesome scenery. Any pointers out there as to where is a good place to stay and what a fella can do besides the tourist attractions.

Some lakes that come to mind would be Redstone, Dutch Hollow, Mirror, or Devils Lake... All offer a wide variety of fish species, and offer some great opportunities... Also, there is the river of course... Castle Rock is a spot to check out...

Oh, and don't forget the Baraboo River..Channels in there for sure...

I havent fished this area much, but have done a bit of messing around on the WI River and Redstone...

Hey Thanks a million for getting back to us there JKH431. I would sure like to try the river in the dells. Im guessing that is where we will be wanting to go check out the sights and might as well do some fishing while we are there. That is open to the public right.. Where the tour boats go and such. I would rather take the River Pro along that beautiful river and be able to stop and do what ever we want instead of on the cruise boats.

Any how, thanks for the imfo. keep it flowing if you got more.

Hey Wiskers,

I know the area very well, most all year long. I will tell you here that it can be a mad house in the summer if you have a river pro you can get away from the crowds. Search for a link to River's Edge Resort. They are on the river and have the only launch in the lower dells that you would want. Not to mention all the bait and info and one of the best restauraunts around. The rates go up after father's day. I plan on being there for the 4th of July for a week, it's an annual family trip. Seeing the fireworks from the boat as they are launched over a cliff and echoing down the cannyons is just a great time to go. Bring the cranks, we do a lot of trolling. You can spend a hundred bucks on bait or on cranks.

Summer is a mixed bag time of year. As for cats, my biggest fish last season was my first flathead ever from the rivere there. A 38" slob that inhaled my Countdown while trolling. I had to go half way to my elbow to get the lure back.

All the kids get to catch fish all by themselves trolling. Just drop it in the water and hang on!

I'll give you a call when I'm feeling better, first cold in a couple years.

Good Times.

Tony... Now that is the kind of help we are looking for. I got goose bumps when I started reading your post.

I just might have to try to plan the trip around 4th.. sounds like a good time.

Thanks again for the pointers. You get an attaboy out of my book.

I'm not sure on the catfishing, but being in the Dells you'd be only a short drive North to both the Castle Rock and the Petenwell Flowage. Both are pretty good fisheries. I know the Petenwell is really coming on as a musky fishery. In fact, this year the PMTT is holding a tournament on the waters in May.

Looks like I'll be up there the 1st of July for the week. We'll be in cabin #24 or #25 the Log Duplex ( you'll hear us smirk.gif), if you get up there, stop over for a frosty and some stories. If were lucky we can have a nice fish fry.

I saw Guillespie was up there last week with Big Dave. They got some pretty good action for the keepers upto 20". Dave said they are getting some real hawgs just about every night and that it is on. Fish upto 13#+ have been reported in the last week.

If I don't make it this week I'll go crazy.

Thanks Jim. I just asked Mike the other day about when he wanted to go. I think he wants to "wait for the call". I can't wait. Gonna make a stop in Park Falls on the way, need a couple of open water sticks.

See you soon. Say hello to the Mrs.
