SLP
Any ideas for solid bass lakes in this area? I've heard the Brainerd area is loaded with some good fishing but I was wondering if there are any sleepers in the Aitkin area. I'm strictly a catch and release fisherman so don't worry about me depleting the bass population. I wish the DNR would only allow C&R for all Minnesota Bass fishing. Thanks
FI Guide
Well you got a few to choose from in the aitkin area. Personally I would fish Bay Lake since it has good structure and good amounts of fish. Section 10 isnt too bad but you gotta work for your fish. Blind lake is a good lake for bigger bass but the lake is very small and the access is impossible with a bigger boat. My fav is Little Pine which is connected to Ffarm Island. Both lakes are great for bass but on Farm dont use any spinnerbaits or cranks or you wont be able to keep the little northerns off. There are many other lakes in the area all you gotta do is what I did and fish as many as you can and find the lake you like best. FlipR70
My in-laws have a place in Aitkin county and I've done a fair amount of fishing up there. They live on Elm Island lake (it's connected to Ripple lake). There are some big bass in there but it's difficult to wade through the pike to get them. I'd try Clear lake by Glen. The water is clear but there are some good numbers of bass and some big ones too. If you get a cloudy day, you can do really well on spinnerbaits. I've fished it a few times and have had good luck. My buddy pulled one out of there that was just short of 5lbs. We caught several in the 3lb range out of there (these are scale weights not estimated). It has big weed flats and some nice structure (if you'd like to fish deep - down to 17 feet). I fished Cedar lake once and had pretty good luck there as well. I fished Nord lake and had reasonble luck but you have to shake off a lot of small pike to get the bass. Go to the northeast side of the lake in the bay for some pitchin' in the lily pads. We didn't catch anything big but there were some reasonable bass there. I tried Rabbit lake by Glen and didn't have any luck with big fish (lots of smaller ones) but I didn't have too much time to fish it. I didn't get a chance to fish too deep and it was a bluebird day.Ripple lake has bass in it but I haven't fished it too many times.FlipR70
Boedigheimer
SLP, Clear lake north of Mille Lacs used to be chuck full of nice bass, weedlines and Jig-n-pigs.
