Nascar's double standards!

Recommended Posts

Does anybody understand why Kenseth's Busch team was penalized for unaproved jacking bolts, incorrect thread counts. What's that. Take away 25 driver points for what. I'm sure that really hurts since Kenseth could care less about 25 points in the Busch series. I guess nascar is trying to get ther point across that they won't stand for cheating in the Busch series. Apperently it's worse than cheating in the cup series since they didn't feel that Johnson should have 25 points taken away for there little infraction. In my opinion that was just a little worse than what the 17 Busch team did. The whole deal with Kenseth was caught before they even had a chance to run with there unaproved thread count. I guess nascar had to make up for there mistake somewhere so why not in the Busch series where it doesn't matter. Good call!

I think the rule applies as you cannot apply a modidied part to car. A different carb or jack bolt. The part has to be to Nascars standard. With the case of Johnson, there was no illegal part added, it was an adjustment on the car. I am not an expert on aero so I am not sure if they had the rear window to high or to low. There was no part that was added. A few days ago, Larry McReynolds (sp) wrote a column about the difference on FoxSports. He explains it a litle better

I read that article and have listened to everyone on TV explain it. I still don't think how points and penalties get handed down are fair. Is there any difference between an unapproved rear end gear and unapproved transmission gears? There is a different point penalty between them.

mnfishingguy---I agree again with you on the penalties handed out. There seems to be no standard for the crime.Maybe if the offenses pile up then your fine changes or just maybe they do what they feel like, which seems to be the later. You could have 2 first time offenders by 2 different teams, drivers or crew chiefs and the penalties will not reflect.

Once again,I think we are starting to think the same..Maybe scary ha. confused.gif

I think it is just like in all the sports there are different penlties handed out for the same thing all the time. The problem that Nascar has it the gray line in the rule books. Each week some one is pushing the rules. There are people on all the teams that are paid to do this. Nascar has to take a stand and define the rules so they apply to everone equally. We do need to remember that in a billion dollar sport with the payouts so hugh and the penalties so small everone is willing to risk being caught.

I will now dismount from my soapbox.
