jigitup
the Akeley campground has all the sites on the water but they are all in one row, lined up close next to each other. That is one reason I never stayed there, the other reason was that they charged $5.00 a night for a pet. I just felt that was a little steep. IndyEFI500
Friends of mine try to stay there every 4th of July. It is really tough to get in that week. We have been there three times during that time period. I know of other compers having problems with the managers pestering them but we have not. We usually try to take over the west end to ourselves because some in our crew tend to get loud. We are right below the managers and they have never bothered us. Supposedly they have turned other people away because of atv's but we always have ours along but are very respectful going in and out or just use the closed west gate since we have that end tied up anyway. Fishing is hit and miss but we usually don't try real hard. There is a little bar that is starting up just north of Akeley. It is about 10 miles down the trail from town so it can't be far by road. I don't remember the name of it but they were building a campground dedicated to atv'rs. May or may not be your cup of tea. It was coming along slowly last 4th when we were there. If you want the name of it, I can dig further in the grey matter for it.

solbes
The ATV place is called Stompin Grounds. [no unauthorized links] I don't have an ATV, but it sounds like a decent place. We have some lakeshore on 11th Crow Wing and fishing is good or fair depending on what you want to catch. Good luck!
