Pflueger spinning reels

Question

Hi everyone. I'm looking to replace a rig that ended up at the bottom of Burntside. Not looking for a high end set-up, but an additional rod for taking on BWCA trips, etc. I'd like to spend not much more than $100 for the rod and reel.

Anyway, when I was looking around, I saw that Pflueger has some 7 bearing reels at a pretty good price. Didn't they used to me a more expensive brand than they are now?

Has anyone got experience with their newer spinning reels? Also, what rod would people suggest in the 50-60 dollar range?

Thanks.

I own three of the Pflueger spincasting reels and they are flawless. Every cast is smooth as silk (I know I sound like an infomercial) but its true.

Also the rod I have different priced ones on each but my favorite combo by far is the one with the Berkley Lightning Rod.

The Pfluger reels are very nice. The "Trion" is a 7 bearing reel that wont set you back too much. Also the Okuma Epixor is a great reel for about $60.

For an inexpensive rod, I think the Gander Mountain Guide Series brand has some decent rods for the $$. If you want to keep the rod in the $50 range, they would be a good choice.
