Weagle's on the shelf!

I just spoke with Steve, one of the owners of Musky Mojo Tackle and he stated the first round of Weagles are on the shelf at Thorne Brothers. Good to see the Weagles production coming out of hibernation and becoming available again.

Jon, I look forward to buying an infamous Weagle -- thanks for the tip. Have you had some luck with them in the past? Any advice on how to use would be appreciated.

The Weagle has a sound all it's own....when worked properly. I was a bit frustrated the first time I put one on. Short downward jerks of the rod and plenty of slack in the line between strokes. Keep the bait moving and you will see how it is supposed to perform. When you get the consistent swoosh of the water when the bait turns sideways your gauranteed a hookup. Itchin for open water!grin.gif

The Weagle can be a very frustrating bait until you get the feel for them, then the true potential of this bait will shine.

I will try to describe the basics of Weagling the best I can:

The Weagle is unique bait that can be worked in wide slow zig zag, or worked almost standing in place with short side to side twitches. The basic operation is to point the rod tip down towards the water and give the lure a quick snap and then instantly give it slack. The bait will spin, splash and take of side ways, when the bait almost comes to rest give the rod another downward snap and instantly give it slack again. It is very similar to many walk the dog baits only with more downward angle, a stronger snap and give it more slack allowing it to do its thing. It will take a little practice but once you get the feel for it you can start trying different speeds and learn how to increase or decrease the action of the bait.

The thing i most like about the bait is the amount of water it moves. There is a learning curve to using it , but it does have a great action and the weight keeps it nice and low in the water. I actually have my best luck working it with a 7-1/2 foot rod.It will even work nice with a fluoro leader if you so desire. Watch out for blue herons though!! If you are in an area that has alot of them they will dive bomb your weagle . A buddy of mine didnt believe that they would do this until he saw it for himself. They will drop right on top of it if you let them.

I wanted to find that out but was worried that i wouldnt be able to get it untangled from my Beckman!! I have never seen a bird so aggressive towards a bait! The humor quickly wore off though after about the fifth or sixth time. I actually had to move off the spot finally. Water skiers yes, other boats yes, but driven off the lake by a bird?
