Merc Motor Question

Guest

Question

I have a 2002 125hp Mercury Motor. Last fall I had it in to have the lower seals replaced. My first trip out this year and ever since the motor alarm goes off if I operate at any higher extremely slow speed. Anyone have any suggestions?

Also, thinking about upgrading to the Optimax motor, any comments or experience would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the help vikes. I've had very good success over the years with Mercury, that is the reason I ask the questions. Not that I have anything against other brands. I've just tended to stick with what works for me. I've logged many hours on this motor as well and it has been great to this point.

Wasn't really looking to get into which motor is better debate, just looking for some suggests.

Thanks!

In that case the 135 and 150 Optis have been bulletproof. I wouldnt buy a 200-225, but thats me.

The yamaha and Suzuki 4 Strokes are very strong in that HP range. Very fuel efficient and fuel injected.

Good luck on your search.

Surface,

As I understand it, there is only one alarm and from what I've been told, it goes off for one of three reasons: oil level, water flow or temperature. Warranty expired so I'm looking at a little self diagnosis first.

Thanks!

Thought I'd chime in. I've got a 90 Merc with low hours, however the alarm goes off as soon as I turn on the key (even with a cold engine). Took it to a mechanic, and checked it over and he said it was a faulty sensor and told me to ignore it. That's fine, but it seems I never use much oil? I've been out 10 times and haven't used more than 15 gallons of gas and during that time my oil level has not gone down hardly at all. Does that sound normal, or do I need another mechanic to look at the oil injector?
