Whitefish bay report

Recommended Posts

Went up on Saturday for the day chasing lakers. 5 guys total but 3 of us got skunked. 1 guy caught 3 smaller ones around 3-4 lbs and the other caught 2 nicer ones which one was 10 1/2 lbs. I was glad I had my camera with. I thought it was going to be cold out there but it wasn't bad but then again it wasn't blowing which makes a world of difference. Dad and I set up his mansion portable, I think its the biggest one Otter makes that folds out both ways out of the sled. I fished outside for awhile and it was actually pretty comfy, no wind ( maybe a ever so slight breeze ) not a cloud in the sky and we only seen like 6 other sleds out there but we didnt stop or they didnt stop. A friend of ours stopped by in his plane and I told him it was dads birthday so he offered to take dad for a ride up in the plane. Dad said that was pretty cool. Even though dad and i never caught anything it was still a day well spent and you couldn't ask for a nicer day. There isn't a whole lot of ice up there, only 10-12 inches, seen quite a few airholes and Dad said there was hardly any sled tracks up around north of the 3 sisters area. I think they are heading up again next weekend but I wont be joining them this time. By the way the guy who caught 3 got them on a Dr. Spoon and the other guy got his on a white tube. Good luck all! Brian

I just made a day trip. I live in Baudette and my dad lives right in Morson. We do have some buddies that rent a cabin for the winter from Bemidji at Buena Vista Resort. They come up just about every weekend and chase the lakers and some walleyes too. I guy I work with told me he was in Gander Mtn in Bemidji and talking to some guys and they were fishing Crow Lake and caught 15 lakers between 3 of them. Didnt say if that was for a weekend or day but I have been hearing mixed reports on lakers for both Whitefish and Crow. Think my dad is going to try a different lake next weekend. By the way just type up buena vista resort cuz they do have a site and see what their rates are and whats available. Good Luck and I look forward to hearing how you make out. Brian

Friends returned from Whitefish bay and reported their best ever Feb. trip. The lakers were slamming iron, and the walleyes crappies and perch were going hot. Looking forward to next weekend when I'm there for 5 days! Can't wait to try some "secret" lures and the old stand bys. Got lots of batteries for my camera!!!

Oh yeah, I'm pumped and ready for the trip, got a lot of batteries and an empty card for the trip. Pretty much any day I could come up north, Maybe on Sat or Sun. will be there until Tuesday sometime. I could hook up to the Kenora trail and head N. Give me some directions and I'll let you know what time I could get there. I think I have had cell phone coverage there before?
