strategy opinion to fishing depressions

I fish this lake that has quite a few depressions.

Around these holes the depth is about 4 feet, then it starts to taper bottoming out around 8 feet with weeds. These depressions vary in size. I have caught very few fish, but I know the potential is there to hold several. I think my boat positioning is wrong and my fishing strategy is wrong so I would like some opinions how you would fish it. Lake has relatively clear water.

I would recommend marking these holes on your GPS, especially if it has a hard bottom. It's basically a form of inside weedline Use your waypoints to get from spot to spot quickly. Try to get a drift with the wind just outside the hole. So you don't even run your trolling motor. Try reaction baits first then slow down if you have to. Concentrate on the edges of the weeds there may be a little drop or ledge at that point. Recycle back through these spots 2-3 times during the day.

Hang on to the pole!

Not knowing any thing about the lake. (1) Check the DNR site and pull this lake up. In the narrative it should indicate the fish shocked per hour on the lake, and how that compares to other lakes in the area. This will give you an idea as to the quality of fish (bass) this lake has.

(2) The type of submergent vegetation is important, one for it's fish holding capabilities and two for the presentation options. I like to fish into the wind if possible, it usually gives you better boat control. In the spring when the vegetation should be a little thinner, I would use a texas rigged worm or fry. As the water warms and the vegetation thickens, I would go to a pig/jig or t-rigged plastics. Now if the vegetation is cabbage, laugh.gif then its time for a jig worm in the spring and a c-rig as it gets warmer.

Thanks for the info. As far as boat position, sounds like I should drift thru the holes. Wondering what about staying along the outside rim of the hole thus tossing baits into the middle or going into the middle and tossing out toward the outside rim? I know this lake has lots of fish. I've had some very good days. This lake is small enough that I don't need gps to find them. Landmarks is all I need. Most are about 50 feet from shore. I haven't tried to go back to the holes after fishing them once. Especially if I didn't catch any. Lake has a fair amount of recreational boaters and they go over these spots frequently. Will this cause the fish to leave the area or become lockjawed?
