Marine Carpet Question

gunflint

Question

I'm in the process of putting carpet on the deck. The old carpet had a bead of carpet glue that ran along the joint where the carpet meets the aluminum hull. (No carpet on the hull) Is there a better compound I can use to seal this joint so that it (the carpet) doesn't separate or fray? Thanks

If you can get it to tuck down in behind the wood and aluminum that would be best. Otherwise cut it w/ a sharp carpet knife as clean as you can and maybe use some clear silicone caulk or they make a carpet seam sealer that is tough stuff, very good glue that will hold up to water but can get real messy if you are not careful. Use a real sharp blade and trim up edge w/ scissors or singe it w\ a lighter lightly.

That sounds like what I'm looking for. I should have said seam instead of joint in my original post. I have Cabela's marine carpet glue to adhere the carpet to the deck but I needed something for the seam.

What ever the guy that installed the original carpet used for the seams is probably only available through NASA. I think they use it on the space shuttle. Man that stuff was tough to get off. tongue.gif
