Good fishing for whitefish with shot of Metro?

Hey all,

Read the In Fisherman article on ice fishing for whitefish, and it seems like an experience I'd really like to have. Are there any decent whitefish lakes within shot of the Metro (less than 2 hour drive)? You could shoot me an email if you want.

I don't know of any lakes with Lake Whitefish in them within 2 hours of the Twin Cities. Believe me, I've looked. The nearest area where you can find them is a 2 1/2 hour drive. Straight up to Whitefish Lake. That lake and the surrounding lakes have whitefish in them.

If you're looking for tullibees, they are a lot easier to find. There are ciscos in Lake Elmo, and a lot of lakes within 2 hours.
