Best bass rods

I'm mainly a fly fisher, but have moved to MN and am fishing bass with fly rod and casting rod. Have Loomis 7' rods and Shimano Calcutta TE reels. Prefer to fish topwater but have been told I should use a softer tipped rod for topwater? Reasons please. Softer tipped rod for walleyes too?

For topwater - you need slack in the line. you can do so by using mono or by using softer tip pole.
