Pakwash Lake

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever fished Pakwash Lake? There is about 5 resorts on this lake and I was wondering which is the best? I'm looking to do a trip in late August on a drive in lake that has good Northern, Walleye and Bass fishing. I don't really want to be on a huge lake like LOTW or Lac Seul so if anyone has any other smaller lakes in this area let me know.

I've been going to Pakwash since 75'.We stay at Rowes Snake Falls camp. They have a web site,Snake Falls Camp.We go the week prior to Memorial day weekend. Some years thats right on.Some years its a week or two early for the big bite. The camp is on the north end of lake.Chukuni River enters there coming down from Red Lake.Plenty of lake or river to check out.

Fishinglund,

You will have a good time.Rob and Nancy run a great camp.Never had a problem catching Walleyes or Pike.Standard jig/minnow or twister, brighter colors. The Chukini River flowing in here does stain the water. The first bend below the camp, you will see,is where to be at sundown.Thats where it opens up into the main lake. You can see the camp from there. No need to run far for lunch.A Lil Joe spinner with hammered gold blade trolled across the rock points works also if you get tired of jigging.Have fun.

We stayed at Northwoods Bay Resort on Pakwash last year (5/28-6/4). Walleye fishing was very steady and good size for the most part. Biggest fish went 27.5". Lots of small northerns to be found, but no smallmouth. The resort is VERY reasonable ($140 per person for a week), but you kind of get what you pay for. The 2 guys that run it are very nice as well. It's located where Chukuni River runs into the lake.

Dinger - We have fished Lac Seul however we have had some bad luck with finding objects under the water. We are looking for a new lake to try next year. Is Pakwash a little safer or is there a lot of reefs/rock piles/trees? Also from what I am reading - it sounds like the walleye fishing is very good?

There are various boulders sticking out of the water, but they are easily spotted. There were no major underwater rockpiles or anything to worry about that I know of. The resort gave us a waterproof map and pointed out a couple areas to be careful around. The walleye fishing was steady the entire week we were there.

Whoa...the last I checked here it was Spring.

gmann,I've done a couple house boat trips on Lac Seul out of Hudson. So I would say that you would feel at home on Pakwash,as it is on a river system controlled by dam as is Seul.Similiar lay of the land as they say.Yes there are rock reefs, more on the main lake. Many of them extend out alot further than you would think. Some solid, some broken rock.Back bays are sand/mud/rock bottom with weeds. The resort owners do put jugs out in the spring on MOST bad spots. The map given out at Snake Falls does a good job of showing the spots.Less trees than Seul as Pakwash is a natural lake now controlled by the dam.I've never seen Pakwash water level very as much as Lac Seul either. As for the fishing...I go in the spring and honestly believe its getting better.Talked to a guy from Wisconsin this spring that has been going to Snake Falls for over 40 yrs.He also says Pakwash is as good as ever.I'll be back.Good luck!

Forgot...never haved check with GPS but the main lake is 18to20 miles or so north to south.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
