island guy
On a drive the other day, I came upon a road killed eagle. A beautiful bird, very unfortunate! Anyway, on my return trip a little bit later, there were two cars parked by the bird taking feathers from the body. Isn't this illegal? Upon discovery I had called the DNR to report the location but didn't ask any questions. Anyone know the laws?
Tom Wilson
It is illegal to have any part of a bald eagle in your possesionor to even possess feathers from a bald eagle without a federal permit. You are not even allowed to pick up an eagle feather from the ground and then have it in your possession without first obtaining said permit. You can get them, but there is a limit on how many you can have etc, etc, etc... From what I have been told--unless you have some degree of native american blood, and can prove it's signifigance to you--you probably won't even get the permit. That could be over exaggerrated, but it's what I have been told. I do know for sure though, that you cannot possess any part without a permit. jenoo4
first off i want to say, i love everyones pic, second is, we have a cabin up north and around where it is we have lots of eagle nest, dont see them up around the nests in the winter, so about 3 years ago, i called and asked about the feathers, i thought it might be fun to look for them this time of year on the ground around the nests, and was told the same thing tom just said in his post, i dont think they have changed the laws yet
