i have a aqua view scout i just bought this year and really like it its not the top of the line model but is good enough for me all depends on the bells and whistels you want on them and your price range the scout runs about $200 and you can spend alot more if you want grin.gif

was also thinking about getting a camera. know it will be a good tool for winter fishing. I wa just wondering what peoples experiences were using them during the open water season as a scouting tool. are you able to keep it down while slowly trolling and take a peak or is it too much work. was thinking of using it as a tool to help me understand my graph better. any tips thoughts appreciated

I use mine in the summer as well but for trolling the camera has more resistance that you might imagine. It lags very far behind the boat. They do make a pole to mount it on and that is what I will be purchasing next, or rigging up some sort of downrigger.

Just like in winter the camera makes for a wonderful tool to understand what you are seeing on the flasher/graph. Plus it's just darn cool to see what's going on down there. wink.gif

Thanks for all the info guys im still stuck on whether to go with aqua-vu or marcum. If I was to go with aqua-vu what one is the best deal in your opinion the scout the scout xl or the scout srt. Do the spectacal response lights work much better than the infared or are they basically the same at night and in dirty water?

If you are looking for the best bang for the buck do the scout. If I where going to do it over again I'd get the scout XL.

Marcum makes a fine product to but I think the accessories for the Aqua vu make the difference. In my opinion the lights are a sales gimick.

Last week I baught a Gander Guide Series camera, same as Marcum vs350. When I turned it on I noticed the picture was at an angle on the monitor as the camera was hanging straight down. I took that one back to exchange for a different one. I explained what the problem was and the salesman said "I noticed that on the display model too" so he opened up another box and turned it on. That was the same thing. Opened another box, that one was finally straight. I took that one home and tried it the next day, worked o.k. but there were some faint vertical lines all the way across the picture and then the on/off button wouldn't work. I took that one back and baught a scout xl, used that once so far and it worked real good. I like the cord better on the scout too, it doesn't seem to have "memory" from being wrapped up, so it does't keep moving off your bait when you get it set. IMO the scout is a better camera.
