LX-3 Issues

tashit

Question

I just got my LX-3 back on Tuesday after sending it in to fix my gain problem. (I had to have the gain at 4 or above to read my lure.) It only took a week and I took it out Tuesday night and it worked great, I couldn't have been happier.

Tonight I go out and it works great at first, then I put it in my brother's hole for him to use for a little while. I look over and the IR and Zoom lights are both on but they are very faint. So I take it back and look better to see if it was the angle I was looking at it but it wasn't. I press the IR button and it changes the zoom. I press the zoom and it changes the zoom. I try moving the zoom up and down and it starts moving down, but then starts moving up when I'm still pressing the down button. It was acting like it was possessed. I turned it off, unplugged the battery and tried it again...same thing. I unplug the transducer and unplug the power to make sure they're connected properly and they are. I try it again and get the same thing. I fiddle around a little more and the next thing I know it's not reading anything. I have the red at the top but nothing else. I leave it on for a little while and all of a sudden it starts reading again, but the zoom and IR are still messed up. It continues to do this, reading the depth at times and showing nothing but red at other times. Then it eventually shows nothing. It's spinning but there are no lights whatsoever. Sometimes the IR says it's on, sometimes the zoom, sometimes both. Pressing the buttons does nothing.

Has anyone heard of this before? I feel like there should be some keys to press to reset it or something and everything will be fine but I don't think I'll be that lucky. I just got this back and really missed it last weekend so I was looking forward to using it this weekend. I'll be calling Marcum tomorrow morning but I wanted to see if anyone has heard of this before and possibly has a quick fix.

I've never heard of anyone having that problem.

Your zoom window is two yellow hash marks that indicate what depth your zoomed at on the left side of the screen. Those marks are on the right side(normal view)and go clockwise as you press the down key. Once it gets past the 6 o'clock position it should start to show the bottom and that bottom will continue to rise if you keep pushing the down key. Is this what your experiencing?

As far as not reading, you said you disconnected the transducer and after you connected it back up it quite reading. There are delicate prongs at that connection. It could be you bent one just enough to where its not getting a good connection. Take the flasher out of the soft pak and look to see if one of the prongs got bent and that you have the socket in all the way and locked.

You should have the flasher turned off when disconnecting the power and transducer.

I haven't heard of this problem before either, it's bizarre. My zoom window was working properly, then it started doing all sorts of wacky things. The two yellow bars on the right side would start to scroll down to the bottom, then for no reason they would stop and start scrolling back up, even though I was still pressing down. Now I can't get them to go either up or down. Also when I press the IR button it does not change the IR setting, it changes between the zoom options (5' ,10', and no zoom). I have disconnected the transducer quite a few times to see if that would help, being careful to connect it correctly and no damage the prongs. I did this always with the power off. I'll be calling Marcum here in a little while and I will post what they say. Thanks for the help.

Well I just got off the phone with Marcum. He didn't really have much of an idea what was going on, it sounds like he's never heard of this problem either. I'm disappointed I won't have it for the Brainerd tournament this weekend or to fish on Sunday, but he did offer to do the TC upgrade for free since I just sent it in so that is a big plus.

This may sound stupid, and I mean no offense, but have you checked to make sure the battery is charged? I know that goofy things can happen due to low voltage. As far as the buttons doing other functions I can only think that it would be internal, but I'm no expert. Good Luck! McGurk

I did. I always charge it after every use and the first thing I did when I got home was put it on the charger and then I checked it again to see if it was still doing that and it was. Thanks for the suggestion though. I should have it back tomorrow or Thursday.
