I just got my LX-3 back on Tuesday after sending it in to fix my gain problem. (I had to have the gain at 4 or above to read my lure.) It only took a week and I took it out Tuesday night and it worked great, I couldn't have been happier.
Tonight I go out and it works great at first, then I put it in my brother's hole for him to use for a little while. I look over and the IR and Zoom lights are both on but they are very faint. So I take it back and look better to see if it was the angle I was looking at it but it wasn't. I press the IR button and it changes the zoom. I press the zoom and it changes the zoom. I try moving the zoom up and down and it starts moving down, but then starts moving up when I'm still pressing the down button. It was acting like it was possessed. I turned it off, unplugged the battery and tried it again...same thing. I unplug the transducer and unplug the power to make sure they're connected properly and they are. I try it again and get the same thing. I fiddle around a little more and the next thing I know it's not reading anything. I have the red at the top but nothing else. I leave it on for a little while and all of a sudden it starts reading again, but the zoom and IR are still messed up. It continues to do this, reading the depth at times and showing nothing but red at other times. Then it eventually shows nothing. It's spinning but there are no lights whatsoever. Sometimes the IR says it's on, sometimes the zoom, sometimes both. Pressing the buttons does nothing.
Has anyone heard of this before? I feel like there should be some keys to press to reset it or something and everything will be fine but I don't think I'll be that lucky. I just got this back and really missed it last weekend so I was looking forward to using it this weekend. I'll be calling Marcum tomorrow morning but I wanted to see if anyone has heard of this before and possibly has a quick fix.
I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought.
Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just
buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
Congrats on the motor! I think you’ll like it.
I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers. 160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.
Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor. Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to
get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius)
says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe. I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho. Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
