Hey all,

Taking the girlfriend on a spring break ski trip up here in early March, and was wondering if anyone can post somewhere to go to get into some lake trout action. I'd be coming up completely blind, not knowing where to access or how deep to fish this time of year. Anyone willing to help me out could email me if they didn't want to divulge too much info at [email protected] as I would really appreciate it. We will only be up for 3 days, and I would love to not wonder around.

I would head up to grand marais and head up the gunflint trail, there are numerous laker lakes up there that can be very good. i suggest getting a map book with stocking and shock reports and you'll find something. otherwise easily accesable spots would be trout lake, gunflint, west bearskin, clearwater, and many more including some smaller lakes i don't like posting. good luck and feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

And either post this in the previously-mentioned forum or e-mail Surface Tension, who can be found moderating that forum. He's been up the Gunflint for over 20 years fishing those lakes.

Get up there before trout outside BWCA closes in mid March. After that only lakes inside the BWCA are open till end of March.

You'll have to travel up hwy 61 to Grand Maris and then up the Gunflint Trail to get into Lake Trout waters. A few drive to Lakers lakes are Flour, East Bearskin, Greenwood, Mayhew, Birch, Loon and Gunflint.

Theres quite a few Designated Trout lakes for Brook, Rainbow, Brown Trout and Splake in the area too. Season closer dates are the same as Lake Trout.
