internal weights on baitcasters

It was a slow day so I figured I might as well lube up the reels a bit. As I was taking apart the Shimanos (Yes, I got them back together) I remembered when I first set them up that I adjusted these plastic tabs or weights to set the tension to some degree. How do you seasoned veterans handle these things. All of them to the ends? All of them to the inside? I seem to have a two at the ends and the other four on the inside and just the opposite on the other reel. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

Thats your 6 pin centrifical(sp?) brake, you can adjust that depending on the weight of your lure and wind conditions, pull em out and the spool slows down faster, put em in and it free wheels, generally I have most of my reels set with only 2 out and I use my thumb for minor adjustments (or backlash if Im not paying attention blush.gif) if wind conditions dictate then I will pull more out, its all up to you and how you feel comfortable, I let one of my buddies cast all day for the first time witha baitcaster this year and after adjusting it with the 6pin and the magnetic brake he didnt backlash once all day, it really is amazing how you can adjust em once you get used to em

Ssaamm, River rat is right.. its called the VBS, variable brake system. It works on centrifical(spelling?) force. The more of those plastic tabs you have clicked out the less chance you will backlash, however yo uare sacrificing distance of cast.

I change mine through out the day depending on weight of lure and wind strenght to maximize cast lenght, and minimize backlashes.
