Pheasant Feathers

After each pheasant hunt, my friends and I always keep the longest feather from each bird provided it is decent sized. I'm sure many of you do that as well.

My question is, does anyone have any cool ideas for projects with these feathers to hang in the house or the hunting shack? Thanks in advance for ideas.

I pull a tail feather from every bird no matter how small it is, some of the early season ones look like partridge, but I can look back and laugh at the young and dumb bird when im trying to hunt in december. On birds with long tail feathers 21 in + I will cut off the tail feathers at the base and fan them out and dry them like a turkey fan and then hang them in the garage, you can leave the green/blue patch of feathers on too for a unique look. Biggest bird I've shot to date had 23 1/2 in tail feathers, I skun that bird out in once peice and then gun the tail and hung the whole pelt up, looks really nice. Otherwise ive seen wreathes and a bunch of tail feathers in a vase.

I think there is a law against using the feathers of harvested wild birds in craft projects and reselling them for profit. You may wish to check on this. I personally don't care but fyi you may want to verify this.

I used to save Curley Q's from Drake Mallards. I had a 5 gallon pail full and never knew what I would do with them, until I got married. A lady in town made all the guys Butaneers (sp) for our tuxes out of them. They looked awesome.
