Powerstroke, yes , of course it's legal if he identify himself. I wouldn't be thinking like this if he or she identfy themself as an officer in the first place, instead of doing any thing he or she wants first then identifying after. Just so you know there are alot of fakes out there that are identifying them self as an officer. There's nothing F*** up about my story. I even talk to one of the brother once about it. It was dismissed because they had a good lawyer and he (CO) has no right searching them and asking for Id's, when he was not even in duty and didn't identify himself when he was ask to. To make this more legit the brother that pointed the gun was an officer himself, not a CO but another kind of officer. I think he know his laws before he pointing the gun to the CO.

Maybe only you would let me and others check your Id's and search you and then check your gun in the middle of the forest without identifying myself as an officer. I think you would be a little suspicious about this if it was you in the 2 brothers shoe. Unless you are one of those person that does everything another stranger/ person ask you to do. What do I call that kind of person, a WIMP.

Lunker story seems a bit more believeable now. This is why threads like this turn into a huge witch hunt griping about CO's. If you 'don't provide certain pertinant details to the story than you may change the whole tone of the story.

I still haven't read from the author of this post whether or not the person entered wearing a legit uniform or identified himself. If thats the case then this whole discussion doesn't matter.

And to wasssit....nobody likes to be bothered doing what they like to do, but only the dumbest (or most honest) of criminals get caught by asking them politely if they are breaking the law. Otherwise they have to resort to stopping people to verify lawfullness. CO's deserve your respect first.....not you as the sportsman. They have ot respect your rights, but the more people fight for rights they aren't entitled to the less CO will be able to do to protect us and our surroundings.

I know I posted earlier about an experience a number of years ago back when CO's didn't have to knock and announce themselves. I would like to share that this past Friday night on Upper Red, I heard a snowmobile pull up to the house and stop and I immediately said that the game warden was here.

Sure enough, a knock at the door, he announced "Conservation Officer-permission to enter" and we said sure. He never actually stepped into the rented house, but according to the guys closer to the door he did a quick eye sweep and confirmed the number of lines----asked what we had in the bucket (a couple of perch)---asked to see our licenses--checked them--answered a couple of quick questions about whether anyone else was catching any crappies and away he went. (The other members of our group said he asked them how many walleyes they had in the bucket! Not sure if it was to catch somebody or whether he had a sense of humor or probably a little of both, but I like it.)

I have no problem with this as we had nothing to hide. This is the first time I've been checked in years and I'm pretty sure that he had his badge visible but he definitely was wearing heavy clothes and had a helmut on (with visor up). It actually felt good knowing that they were out checking on folks regarding following the laws.
