Legal under a Tip-Up?

Anyone seen or used a Jeweled Treble hook? I've got literally hundreds of them. They are nothing more than a treble hook with a bright bead of (??) plastic, acrylic, glass on the shank of the hook. They look great, have a nice weight to them, and I'd love to rig northern tip-ups with them if I could. Not quite a lure, not quite a bare hook......

Any thoughts?

I know using just a treble hook, like you would a regular, is illegal in summer, but not sure about winter. Just tye one on, leave 6-12 in of tag line, and tye another treble on the tag line. You just made yourself a quick-strike rig! ...I've never thought of that... *runs off to make a few*.

A plain treble hook with live bait is a no,no. you can use live bait on a lure. i use a "jimmy-rig" under my tip-ups, they have 2 treble hooks but they have small spinner blades that made them a lure, not a hook. Your bead is o.k. too as long as it is attached to the hook not just threaded on the line above the hook. Hope that helps. If I am in error please someone let me know as I have been using these rigs for years

I called the DNR info line about this in December. I was told that under a tip-up, you could have 1 treble hook, but it must have a spinner blade within 3 inches, and beads or other things didn't matter one way or another.

Thanks for the info TimR. Can the blade just be threaded on the leader line?

I don't know, I'm just going with what they told me. I imagine if you use a bobber stop or something that keeps it within 3 inches it would be good.
