New trolling motor

Question

Got some x-mas cash from my wife and kids for a trolling motor for my boat. I want a Minnkota, and I found one from a sporting goods dealer that want $370 for a Maxxum 65BT-24V motor with a 42" shaft. I run a 16 foot crestliner and I am wondering if the 42" shaft is long enough. I want a 24 volt system and a 65# motor sounds about right to me.... anyone have some help for me? Is this a good deal or not? According to the HSOforum it is a demo and has a one year warranty......free shipping too......My real question I guess is how far under the water does the trolling motor need to go?

you want the prop to be completely under the water, or it will cavitate and make a lot of noise. if you can ; go out and measure your boat from where the motor will sit to the water line.then you will want to allow some extra length to compensate for waves.
