Old Zercom RST

dirtking

Question

I have an old Zercom that wont read the bottom - this is the one with the verticle screen - I never used it much at all so I wouldn't think I would have damaged the transducer - any suggestions - I would like to get it working to sell it! I saw one on hsolist for 127 bucks with 5 days left!

I sold a lot of Zercom units and parts over the past year. Some to guys on this forum. Thanks guys smile.gif I would first check to see if you are getting a ticking sound from the face of the transducer when you have the unit turned on. you should be able to hear it and possibly even feel a fast tick. If you don't hear this your transducer is more than likely shot. If your transducer does tick, then you are probably looking at a problem in the unit itself. If this is the case, you are out of luck as no one works on these things.

Try Fish Electronics in Columbia Heights. They sell transducers for Zercoms and might be able to tell you if you have a bad locator head or transducer.

If you run across someone that has a Zercom LCF40 locator, you could interchange their transducer with your unit as they both have the same frequency and plug. That way you could figure out which is the bad part.

Good luck getting it fixed because they do sell well online if you have a chance to get rid of it.

I'm going to throw something in here..

Make sure your connections are clean, even put a little dielectric grease on them. I have a pro that doesnt read once in a while and I have to mess with the connection and it works fine. There is no visual corrosion.. just gets an attitude. The dielectric grease will take care of that problem.
