confused.gif Read the Mn. reg's this morning about shelter tag and DNR #. It calls for minimum 2 inch letters displaying Mn. DNR number on the outside of the shelter. Do the reg's call for shelter # or my fishing license # ? I would assume they want the shelter # but every time I assume something, well ya know what they say about assuming....

My understanding is that for portable shelters, your Drivers' License # must be displayed, along with the shelter tag. At least that's what I've used in previous years. Is there a new requirement for this season?

Here is the exerpt right from the 2005 Regs.

Fish House or Dark House

The following regulations apply to fish houses, dark houses, and por-

table shelters used on all Minnesota waters, unless otherwise noted else-

where in this booklet.

• All shelters, which include dark houses, fish houses, and portable

shelters, placed on the ice of Minnesota waters must have the

complete name and address or driver’s license number or Minnesota

DNR number of the owner plainly and legibly displayed on the

outside in letters, and figures at least 2 inches in height. Dark houses,

fish houses, and portable shelters placed on the ice for shelter while

fishing must be licensed, except that a license is not required on

border waters with Wisconsin, Iowa, North and South Dakota. A

tag, fur nished with the license, must be attached to the exterior in a

readily visible location.

• Dark houses, fish houses, and por ta ble shelters must have a door that

can be opened from the outside at any time when in use.

• Fish houses left on the ice overnight need to have at least 2 square

inches of reflective material on each side of the house.

All that I have is my DNR# in 2" high letters (found on my licenses) and my shelter tag. I feel much safer having my DNR# displayed and not my DL#, plus as stated in other threads, your DL# will change with the new licenses. The DNR# is also smaller so it's easier to display.

All shelters premanant or portable have to have two things.

1. A current year shelter tag. That is displayed on the outside of the shelter.

2. You have three options: Which ever option you choose it has to be displayed with 2 inch letters.

  • A. Your name with address.

B. Your divers license number.

C. Your MDNR number.
