Is this normal or does my LX3 have problems?

Ok heres what happens. It's kind of hard to explain so bear with me.

I have noticed this ever since I got my LX3 when they first came out but it never really bothered me until now. When I am fishing, I drop my jig down until it hits the bottom then I slowly lift my rod until I feel the weight of the jig (which would mean it is off the bottom and should show up on the LX3). I keep lifting my rod but I never see the jig on the LX3 until my rod is about 18-24 inches higher than where it was when I first felt the weight of the jig. Now my jig is almost 2 feet off the bottom but on the LX3 it shows it as being only a few inches off the bottom. So really I cannot see anything whether its my bait or a fish unless its about 18-24 inches off the bottom. Now keep In mind I am fishing over a sand bottom, so I know its not just my jig going down into the weeds. And I dont have the gain turned up too high, just enough so the jig shows up. Have any other LX3 users noticed this? Is it normal or does mine have some issues? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

are you on a break or slope? That might account for it as you will get your initial reading at the shallow end of the break as your lure is in the center of the cone or deeper.

You also want your gain turned down so your lure/bait shows as only yellow.

Sand has also been known to grow weeds.

If you have an LX5 you can reduce your cone angle to the 8 degree making your cone angle much smaller.
