12v vs 24 v for trolling motors

Question

What are the benefits of 24 volts? I'm underpowered now with a 36 lb 12 volt motor.

I'm looking at a 55 lb 12 volt now.

Are 24 volts just necessary in the larger size? Two batteries vs one battery would last a lot longer I suppose, but that is not a problem now.

Any reason I should have a 24 volt? Thankyou for you replies.

You are correct sir! Pos to pos, neg to neg, then hook up as usual to the battery.
All you need is two 6 guage wires fitted with correct size eyes to attatch between the batteries.
You will double your amp-hour capacity.
Good Luck!

Higher voltage gives the benefit of requiring less amps to develop a given amout of power as compared to a lower voltage.

This in turn allows smaller wire to be used to convey the power, or wind the motors, etc. The higher voltage, less amps, thinner wire is how the trolling motors with higher thrust are accomplished using housings not too much larger than those with less thrust.
