Ice Fishing Death

Recommended Posts

A 49-year old man died in Cedar Falls, Iowa, this morning after falling through the ice on a small impoundment. frown.gif People reported seeing his tackle sitting by a large hole, and rescue squads found the man under the ice. Since no auger or spud bar was found at the site, officials believe he broke through the ice, which was about an inch and a half thick, as he was drilling a hole. Let's be careful people! The snow cover has really slowed the development of safe ice, so take the proper precautions and do not assume that the ice is good because of the cold weather we have had.

TOO SAD. I think I'm going to give it a little while yet. this snow really messed up our ice!!! just isn't safe anywhere yet. reports are the same no matter where you look....4" in one spot, 1" a few feet away. I have too much to live for and as much as I LOVE ice fishing, I won't be taking those risks yet!!

That is too sad... I think I might give it another week. I took a bath 4 years ago and since then don't think it's worth risking life and limb for early ice gills. Make sure if you go out this weekend you take your ice picks with you, and go with a buddy.
