Aqua Vu Scout vs. Aqua Vu ZT

I was in your position last spring. I went for the ZT, only because I liked the idea of temp reading in the summertime down at camera level, and the sun shield works way better in the sun. if I were to do it again, Id get a cable longer than 50'. (all for summer time use.) I havent tried it yet threw the ice.

The 2 units are quite different, you really have to ask yourself which is more important to you.

The Scout has a very nice 5" screen. 50 feet of cable, and Infra red lights. The monitor on this unit is very nice and is quite easy to use.

The ZT runs on the projection screen and is about 4" if I remember right, which would make it an inch smaller. The projection screen is very nice as well, one of the nicest features of the projection screen units is that they are weather proof. THe ZT is also going to have the spectra response lights, which are better than the infra red lights..

SO, I like the monitor better on the scout, I like that the ZT is more weather proof. I like the fact that the ZT has the Spetra resonse lights. All that said.. the ZT is Exactly $100 more.

I got a Scout last year and loved it. The only drawback with both of them is managing the cable. The other, newer versions (cant remember the model #s) have a retractable spool for the cable. I read that in another forum and that hit home re the retractability. If you can afford it, buy one of those. Speaking of, does anyone have any tips to better manage the cable (i.e. the twisting and turning) Does anyone use one of those tripod things to hold it in place? Do they work?
