Minnow Bucket solutions

I'm looking for a solution for a minnow bucket for using in my Scout Fish Trap. I want something like the clam corp 2.5 gal bucket with lid, but that isn't worth ten bucks. Would like to hear some ideas on a spill proof low profile minnow buckets you guys use and where to get it!!

All I have been using for the last couple of years is a soft cooler, get a bag of minnows at the bait shop and chuck it in there. When moving from spot to spot, twist up and rubberband the bag, and zip the cooler closed. You don't have to worry about spilled water or frozen bait bucket lids.

If you're not opposed to scavenging- keep your eyes out for food service buckets that maybe they had hard boiled eggs in or something.

Then insert a styrofoam bait bucket- should be able to find one that fits.

For strength/durability, cut and glue a round piece of plywood to the styrofoam lid. To this you can screw a steel strap, or other similar, which can be tied to the buckets steel handle

Insulated, much more stable than the standalone bucket and can handle the battle better over the long haul. Also takes turns in you vehicle better grin.gif

I also use the small cooler, works great! When moving around on the lake the lid keeps the water inside. The lid might freeze down a little, but I can always get it off. Like I said it works great!

For a day trip it's hard to beat the plastic "folgers" coffee cans. The lid snaps on fairly tight if you keep the dog away from it. The can will also fit down an 8 inch hole with a little effort to freshen up the water. The price is untouchable. smile.gif An insulated "5 gallon" pail works well for the main supply.

i got a insulated bait bucket for ya, if you live near chaska, it is one i bought last year...with a yellow lid and it is a frabill i think...it must be me but i have lost my bait about 4 times in last year from the lid popping off when knocked over..come get it! i will even load it in your truck. It is low profile, and is supposed to be spill proof, it seems the lid doesnt have much of a lip on it so it doesn't seal up that good i guess. Dont buy one.

I just picked up a new minnow hauler at Gander Moutain the other day to give for christmas and I think it is new to the market. It is long (about 18") and narrow (about 5"). I even believe it floats, nevertheless its intent is to be put in the ice hole to keep the water fresh, and it can also be towed behind a boat in the summer, kind of like the traditional yellow and white trolling buckets. It also has a screw on top to keep the minnows from escaping. Only problem is it costs about 10 bucks also, but I belive it would be worth it.
