Is there a hole size regulation in MN for spearing?

Scott,

I grew up in your neck of the woods. My father still puts out the darkhouse every year. He is starting to use it more for sight fishing though. When we would build a darkhouse, it would be 4' x 6', with about a 2.5' x 3.5' spearing hole at the opposite end from the door. Kind of like a big screen TV.

I have never heard of a size limitation. Very dangerous with kids around though. Some sort of tether strap would be a good idea.

My hole in my new mankato house is 37" by 24" I believe and it works nice. My other house has a 32x28 and that's also a good size. I like to have my holes as big as possible. If the ice gets thick you can cut it smaller if you don't feel like doing the work. I got out last weekend and saw the biggest fish I've ever seen spearing before. I figure it was probably around 37". It came in and slammed my sucker minnow and swam around with it in the hole. We just watched it for probably 10 seconds and then it let go and swam off. That was so cool. Didn't spear a fish the whole day and it didn't matter because that was just awesome. Anybody else get out or have any luck?? How about some reports on fish movement?
