lanyard
Northlander, jnelson-Is that a WI brew referred to locally as a "Nutty"?Have been told I need to get some, but was in Hayward a few years back and thought the bartender at the place said the brewery burnt down, or some other tragedy, that kept me from enjoying one.If it's the same, I appreciate the info as I could impress a couple of highly impressionable people. DaveyG
On the weekends my family and/or friends will come out to the shack and we'll cook brunch on the wood stove: scrambled eggs (with mushrooms, spinach, and red bell peppers), bacon, hashbrowns, and waffles. And we make homemade bloody mary's. And this year my plan is to catch fish all day after brunch and then cook a fish dinner out at the shack. hoggs222
What are the laws for cooking fish out in a fish house? Does it just count toward your limit? How about lakes like Mille Lacs with size restrictions? Can't really tell if it's 20-28" if it's in a pile in the garbage. I'm guessing it's not legal on those lakes. HarryG
Wings! I buy at the grocery store and double wrap them in foil, set them on top of the heater. If I am out for just the evening bite, it is perfect. If you don't like the mess, you can get boneless wings and bring a fork. I keep a good supply of water in the house to clean up. Fishing and good food, it makes it so much better.
Shawnny B
Holly snickies I better keep an eye on this or I wont be able to keep up. As far as the seed shells I tend to spit them back into an empty 20 oz bottle or a one litter, just dont try and drink from the wrong one Thanks for the recipie also Ill have to get it a shot sometime. And Yes I did forget about penuts, but its usualy easy to grab a bag from the gas station than to actualy plan it. But I am trying to change that this year. Im starting to think of how to split the gas line and have some type of quick connect inside the house so that I can hoook up a "stove" instead of using the Coleman stove. I think I might even try to do something like a home made pizza on the ice, just gotta get a smaller pizza oven that wont burn up the generator. Thanks for all the posts, its good to know that Im not the only junk food eater on the ice

DaveyG
hoggs222, I'm sure it counts towards your limit because the limit law is defined as your daily limit. So you couldn't keep your limit, eat some, and then catch and keep some more. I'm not sure you were even asking about doing that.I've never heard about a law against cooking fish at the ice shack. In reference to your "size limit lake" question, I looked over the fishing regulations again and saw the following:"While on or fishing waters with size restrictions, all fish for which the size restriction applies must have their heads, tails, fins, and skin intact and be measurable except when a watercraft is docked or moored to shore and the person is preparing the fish for that nights/days meal."I take that to mean that you probably can't clean them and eat them at your shack. But then again, you could fillet the fish in such a way that it could still be measurable, so then I suppose it would be within the regulations. Kind of a gray area I think. I haven't run into this situation before. If anyone else out there has dealt with this, please enlighten us.If you're not taking "size-restricted" fish, then I don't see anything in the fishing regulations that says you can't fillet the fish and cook them at the shack. You just have to take the leftover fish parts with you.
FishnBear
Don't forget the hot dogs, poke a coat hanger thru them and hang them just a little above the heater for a few minutes. bring a bag of buns and a little ketchup. Very simple but will fill the void in your gut and keep you fishing longer.
