Eckie
Anybody have any experience with these? I've been doing a little research on them, such as the Brunton Liberty Lanterns, but I've not noticed this topic come up before discussing the yay's and nay's. They do seem a bit pricey(one sight listed them at $99), and may be hard to justify..one would have to break/replace a LOT of mantles....but also wonder how well they perform?? Gissert
Brunton makes great stuff. I would not be afraid of their stuff at all. I have their Glorb lantern. It is tiny and runs on butane. I can fit the carrying case in my coat pocket. At full brightness, I guess it to put out as much light as a 60-75 watt bulb. To get the most light, you need to run it with a mantle, but if the mantle goes to pieces you can still run it without a mantle in candle light mode. stick
I have posted a few times specifically on the Libery Mantleless by Brunton. I didn't get much back on them as to the specific lighting experience in the house. From my point, I am sick of the hassle of replacing mantles when on the ice. I am stongly thinking about the high output LEDs and having one less thing to carry in the fish-house.
NAGORSKI
YUP... SKIP THE MANTLES AND GO WITH THE L.E.D. LIGHTS RUN ON AN EXTRA VEXILLAR BATT.MUCH EASIER I.M.O.
Eckie
Stick,Sorry I've missed your posts with this info, but I completely agree...seems the mantles are always break right when I need them. Where would I find the LED lights? I have used my headlamp before when I've run out of propane and needed light...which worked out much better than I was expecting... stick
Eckie, my posts were much like yours. I was looking to see if anbody was using the Brunton lantern. I threw it out there, and didn't get much back at all, so the posts aren't worth much. It looks like a nice and compact unit, but I don't think it's going to put out the light I like (or are at least accustomed to). I plan on going with the LED rope lights, but want to see them in action too. I plan on checking them out at the Ice-Fishing show this weekend. They are $30-$35 and I plan on running 2 of them off a separate small battery. That should be around $80 for the "getup" and should be easy and offer good light. Just my $0.02. Raven
Last year I went with the LED rope lights after checking out the options. They work great in my FRABIL. Just tied them to the frame over my head and use an extra vexilar battery. Last year they went for $15 at Gander Mountain. I guess this year they are a shorter and the cost has gone up. Must work if they can raise the price.
HarryG
For a portable, go with the rope lights. I use a head light and it work very well. I want the rope lights but I already spend too much on Ice Gear. The lantern was just too much junk to haul around.
