Installing a bilge pump

Lost

Question

I've looked at all kinds of things on how to install a bilge pump and they all told me the same thing. But they haven't answered my question. The question I have is this:

How do I actually mount it in place? Do I use screws or some sort of waterproof adhesive?

And what's the best location to mount it?

Regardless of where you mount it or what you use to adhere it with, make sure your mounting area is prepped properly. The bottom of the hull in the transom area is probably the dirtiest and greasiest place in the boat. When we install one at our shop, first we clean the area with de-greaser. Don't use engine degreaser, as this tends to leave a transparent film behind. For the do-it-yourselfer, rubbing alcohol works really good. Rub it on and wipe it off before it dries. Then rough up the mounting surface with 80 grit sandpaper so that the adhesive has some tooth to bite into. Afterwards, re-clean it with alcohol again using the same method. This last step is very important. After it is completely dry, it's ready to go.
