nolte
GuysI was wondering if an Otter Magnum fits in the back of a Chevy Extended Cab pickup with the tail gate up. Also would it fit under a soft tonneau cover. Right now I have a Polar 3 man and it fits in the bed fine, with the hitch removed, but I can't put my tonneau down becuase the sled height is too tall. Which defeats the purpose of having a tonneau. Just seeing if I should switch shacks. Any ideas, thanks guys.
LMITOUT
I should fit without any problems in the 6.5' box. I have a topper now, but if I remember correctly the Access roll cover would cover it too. This was a 2003 Otter Magnum with the square and straight lower bars. A buddy has a 2004 Otter Magnum which has the curved lower bars and he says it's a bit longer and inteferes with his Access Cover in the shortbox. Because of the hinge design, they don't fold on top of one another and the curved bars are offset towards the ends of the sled which makes it a tad longer in overall length. I just got my 2005 Otter Magnum last night and haven't put it together to confirm this.
nitroant
The magnum will fit in a chevy/gmc 6 1/2 foot box. The magnum sled is 74" so you will have a little wiggle room, but not much. Mine fits under the tonneau cover, but again, not by much. I bought this set up because it would fit in the bed perfect and it doesn't get any snow/rain/slush on it sitting in the truck at work. I put a locking tailgate accessory on my tailgate as well, so its somewhat secure and out of sight. I don't have the factory seats you can get for the Otters, if you do, it won't fit under the cover. Have fun.
hanson
Otter Lodge fits in my 99 GMC Extended Cab box with the tailgate up. Its snug but it fits. I also have an Access Tonneau cover and it will NOT fit under the cover. The Access tonneau bracket in the front interferes just a wee bit but nothing to be concerned about. ChuckN
I would switch shacks. The Otter Lodge is 21.5" in height. If I had a soft/roll up tonneau cover it would fit in my Ford, but you have a Chev so I can't tell ya. Measure and see. I know for a fact the Lodge will fit in a Chev short box (6.5') with the tailgate up.
Hibbing
Switch trucks!! The 2005 fords have a 23" deep box. Chevy's are only 19". My Otter fits with room to spare.
nolte
Thanks for the replies guys. I've got the truxedo low pro(if that matters). I want to do the same thing as someone above did. Get a locking tailgate and leave the thing in without people being able to see it. Then I'll just put the electronics and stuff in the back seat. That should keep the stuff fairly secure. Worst part is I've had the shack for 3 years and it's done great for me. Plus I've got the Hitch and cover for it and I'll get to buy all those again. If I had a lot of change lieing around, I'd just get a enclosed sled trailer and leave it in there with a brand new ATV or sled. But so much for wishfull thinking. Dakota Iceman
Ok Dude, here is the info you requested. I have a chevy extended cab 4x4 short box. my otter magnum does fit in the back w/tailgate up and I also use the Truxedo taneau cover. Everything fits with about an 1" to psare under the truxedo. You will notice that you may rub on the rubber flap at the rear of your cover when sliding the shack in but it is not a problem once you are fully inside the box. In regards to your other idea of the enclosed trailer...I went ahead and did just that this year with a v-nosed 6x12 enclosed trailer with fold down rear ramp door. It works slick as I have a honda rancher 350, a magnum lodge, my boys honda 90 atv and a fishtrap pro along with extra equipment. The only problem is that once you start filling up your trailer....it occurs to you that you still have the room under your cover...therfore you move the otter back underneath the taneau cover and you start buying up more equipment to fill your trailer up with......This phenom is known as the "swirling vortex" that is Ice fishing gear!! Regardless....you will be in good shape with that otter under the truxedo cover, the truxedo (in my opinion) is a far superior product than the access covers. very little movement (flap) when traveling down the interstate on a windy day in sd. You wont be dissapointed. Iceman out>
