Where to go

I still have some vacation days left this year and thought it might be fun to go ice fishing away from the cities. I don't have an ATV or snowmobile so I would be looking for a permanent shack. Any thoughts as to where would be a good place to travel to around the end of December?

Lake of the woods... I went up last year about that time and had a blast.

There are a ton of them up there. Go to the resort locator on this site and you will find several of them. I do recommend you do it quickly as they fill fast. It might be tough to find one open at this point but it's worth a shot.

I made a couple of calls last week about a specific LOW resort that I'm going to with the guys in January and would like to hit again with my son and another friend and his son. Found out that no actual weekends were available until March already and that they did have a couple of Thursday/Friday fishing/cabins available in mid and late February so don't hesitate to get on this quickly.

One advantage is most (if not all) of the resorts have kids at half price through high school so it is a great opportunity to bring the kids along.
