MarCum LX1/FL-8

I've read the previous threads debating between the high end flashers, but haven't heard anyone talk about the lower end ones. It's apparent that most people on this forum prefer Marcum. I'm going to but my first flasher and have found the FL-8 Genz Pack and Marcum -1 at comparable prices. It seems that the Genz Pac comes wiht more stuff(hard case, floating transducer holder?)CAn anyone shed some light on these lower end flashers for me. I just can't tell which way to go

The steal of the century is the MarCum LX-3 at Reeds for $279. Compare the standard features to the FL-8 or LX-1 and you'll be simply amazed. There's no doubt in my mind you will be more than happy if you choose the LX-3. Why would you want low end when you can have high end for the same price? Good luck with whatever unit you choose.

The reason I was looking for the lower end models was based on price. I have found both models for $225. I'm a college student and strapped for cash. You're right though, that is a great price on the LX-3. THanks for your help

Go with the LX-1 hands down, still has 1500 Watts of power, crystal clear crisp display, my buddy has an FL8 and he has a hard time fishing in our group with all of our all the interference, while with my LX-1 I do just fine, and the pack it comes in is fine! If you are worried about transducer floats, they are cheap... if it was me I would not even think twice about it, go with the LX-1.

I would go with the Marcum. I went through the the same thing you are a few years back. I bought a LX-3 and now I`m waiting for my LX-5. I have fished with Vex guys that that used my Marcum and loved it. You will enjoy your Marcum. grin.gif

Here is one thing to keep in mind: the LX-1 jumps from 20 to 40ft. for depth. If you do alot of fishing in the 20 to 30 ft. range the fl-8 has a 30 ft. scale. I own both brands. without a zoom option, this makes it easier to read the bottom with more closely matched scale. Love them both. But, this is the only advantage I find with the fl-8. Otherwise, interference rejection around others and the separation and fine line of the screen is definately better with the marcums. And another thing. The interference is really not that bad with the vex. Once you learn to read a flasher, you will know what's interference and what's real. Remember, I own both and like both. So, take the facts and mull them over. Hope this helps in your decision.
