New Member / Walking on ice already

Hey folks, new guy here. I live a little NE of Brainerd.

Thought you'd all like to know I was out walking on the ice already today. It was cracking and popping like crazy, but it held me up. (keep in mind this is a small lake) I got out about 100 yards before it was popping a bit too much for my comfort level. Not too much longer though...

Let just a be aware of the dangers of first ice. I am sure that all of you know you need to be careful but it doesn't hurt to be reminded. No fish is work going through for. So just remember than and be careful again we don't want to hear about anyone going through.

Heh... Not to worry. My lake is pretty shallow until you get out towards the middle, then it drops off quick. I was wearing chest waders just in case, and didn't get out to the deep stuff before I turned back.

You were wearing chestwaders, wouldn't they have filled up had you dropped in the deeper stuff?

Yup.

I've spent enough time wading in this lake though, to know how far I could venture safely.
