Eiger0304
What size regulator and what size copper tubing should a person use?? Have 2 100# tanks, the stove and heater are on opposite side walls. Each run will be approx 10' from tank. Bought everything 3/8". 3/8" is the input for the heater. In the future I'll have 2 LP gas lights on each run. As far as regulators goes, I bought the $10 cheapo at Menards. It is a single stage, 11" W.C. and rated up 75,000 BTU. Heater says max 13" W.C. Should I have gone with a dual stage? If so, why?
End of the Line
3/8 will proabably work to the stove and lights, however to be on the safe side I wouldn't run 3/8 to the heater, especially if your going to tap something else on that same line. I would run 1/2 to the heater for sure. It depends how big the house is, size of heater (BTU's), insulation, etc... you might be able to use 3/8. To be safe I would run 1/2 to everything. As far as the regulator is nice having the option to tie the 2 together with a cross-over feed so you can fill one tank without loosing the pilot on the heater and getting air in the lines. Those run about $70 I think with dual regulators. I am assuming this is a pretty decent size house since you talk about 2 100#'s.
Phred52
Eiger0304, Are you talking I.D or O.D. on the copper? I run a 46 or 48K BTU Reznor in my garage using 1/2" O.D.(That's 3/8" I.D.) and I've not had a problem. If you plan on tapping off of it several times, then I'd go to the 5/8"O.D. (1/2" I.D.) to be safe. You might also consider using a manifold, It'll save having to cut lines and some $$$ on fittings. I run my heater off of 2-100 lb tanks with an auto switchover/ dual stage regulator (new last fall @ $70.) I don't heat all the time, only when I'll be in the garage for a while. Though I do keep a pilot light lit fall til spring. Phred52
hovermn
I forgot the name of the RV place that's just down the road from the Forest Lake Gander Mt. but a buddy and I bought a dual automatic x-over regulator from them last year for something like $45. Not sure what they're going for this year, though.
