Stage of the rut?

Last night while working, I had to take a little trip to the jail... While en route, I seen three seperate bucks crossing the highway with that all too familar look about them.

Then today, musky fishing on Namekagon, we seen a buck swimming to a small island, where immediately as he made contact with the island, two does started swimming towards shore. The buck, well he was back in pursuit. After they all hit land, he was hot on their tails. A decent buck too!! On the way back home, does were out feeding in fields, and every once in awhile you could catch a glimpse of a deer running through the crowds!!

All in all, I would say we are in the start of the chase phase here. A few does are probably coming into estrous, but I would say by the mid to end of the second week of Nov, a lot of bucks and does will be paired up. Pretty much on schedule as the past couple of years.

Now thats the kind of report I like to hear! How was the fishing anyways? Will be hunting the next two days and certainly will be working the rattle bag and grunt call, might break the decoys out tomorrow morning.

Did a little poking around today.. Seen a few bucks throughout the day, but nothing to get my blood pumping. But on the way home, in an area I do hunt, I caught glimpse of a mighty fine specimen wanting to cross the road... 5X6 with two matching kickers off his G2's. I would say he would gross in the 170's where he had all of an over 20" inch spread with good beam and tine length. He was a brute that would probably push the 220's or a bit more dressed!! Hopefully he sticks in the area, and I see him on Mon or Tues..

Well guys, hows it going? I was hoping with the rut coming on the big boys would be moving during daylight. But with the hunting pressure in my area they contuine to move at night. I'm seeing big mature does still with there fawns. Last week I seen 2 little eight pointers and they were on high alert. Both busted me easily, was hoping to arrow one and get it over with since the rifle season is almost here. Anyone do much Dec. bowhunting?

Saw a decent 8pt on Tues at 11am, which is a good sign, he was out cruisin. Yesterday morning saw a buck cruising and rattled him in, real nice deer but he only had half of his rack! Perfect half to an 8pt rack on his left side, only maybe an inch or so left on his right side. Rattled in that exact same deer yesterday evening at about 4:45 from a different stand only qtr mile away. Frustrating, would have shot him if he wasn't missing the one side. Jim, how was your hunt earlier this week? I think the warm temps during the day aren't helping any.

Been extremely busy here... not enough time for everything I tell ya... working... fishing...getting ready for ice fishing (putting all my ice shacks together)... and doing a little hunting...

I went out the other day, Tuesday. Beautiful day and the deer were on the move... Took an 11 point, probably a 3 1/2 year old where he had a 17" inside spread. Main frame 10 with one long kicker off a G2. Not the biggest deer rack wise (probably would score 120 to 125), and usually I would of let something like this walk, but with my time restraints this year...I bagged him. Good hunt though!!

No field pictures of the deer, and my buddy needed the cape ASAP, so I will shoot a photo of the skull here when I get time.

In regards to the rut, I would say a lot of bucks are starting to pair with does and some still lurking behind a few unwilling participants. On Wed, during our big winds, I seen three bucks running a doe. 2 of which were small, where one bigger 9 point was running off the two smaller guys and then coming back to the doe. Also seen two other bucks walking step to step with does.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
