Dakota Iceman
Ok, I have a technical question for anyone who owns or has one of these. Im looking at the medium rear box. Does anyone know if a Big Buddy heater will fit into one of these in the upright position? Im sure it would fit in the large monster box because that is 26" deep but I dont need that big of box and I think it would look like john wayne on a shetland pony if I attached the large one to a honda rancher 350. If anyone knows...please enlighten me. Iceman out>
Dave
Iceman, The medium and large box Monster Box are the same except for the rear on the large box where the buckets fit in. I don't have a Big Buddy but see it's 17.5 inches in height, 17 inches long from its HSOforum. I will measure the inside of the Monster Box for you tonight and report in the morning, if that's fast enough for ya. I'll still measure but I found a photo that may help you judge size. I don't remember how wide my ladder stand is though.
Dave
Iceman,I reread your post and noticed you wanted the Buddy in the upright position. The shallowest depth in the medium box is 11 inches, due to a 3 inch raised channel that runs from left to right across the box (as you stand behind it). On both front & rear side of that channel, add 3 inches of depth. So, no, a Big Buddy will not stand upright in the box.It would, however, lay down in the box since the buddy is 10 inches deep and there's at least 11 inches in depth inside the box. And, from the seat side to the rear is 18 1/4 inches. I can show you photos on Monday since I'll be out of town, if you need any more info. Dakota Iceman
Thanks for the info Dave, I guess I could lay it down..but by doing it that way I think I will lose a bunch of room and I still want to be able to fit my LX-3 inside along with some other small valuables. My main reason for looking at the Monster box is so that I can lock it while say for example.....I have to run into the local tavern off of the ice and I want to keep my gear safe. Dont go to alot of trouble, but if you can take a pic of the medium box opened up that would be very cool, a visual would go along way in helping me decide. There are a quite a few listed otter distributors in south dakota but none of them stock anything so its hard to get a good idea of what your buying before you lay down your cash. Thansk for your help. Iceman out>
Dave
Iceman, Here's a photo of the medium Monster box (sorry, it's dirty; just before mounting it back on my machine for deer season) Measured from the inside front (side towards the rider) to the rear lip (by locking latch tab), there's 18 1/2 inches. A Big Buddy should be able to lay flat. (I don't know if any connections sticks out of the Big Buddy that would interfere since I don't have one). Your LX-3 will fit tucked back into one of the wrap around front corners. The depth of the box is 11 inches from the TOP of that molded channel on the bottom of the box that runs from left to right. Dakota Iceman
Dave, thanks so much for taking the time to post the pics. I am going to go ahead and get the medium size box for my rancher. Just to clarify.....They do lock right?
Augusta
Is the mounting hardware included when you purchase the box?
Dave
Yes. Here's the lock handle on a large box. Medium box lock is the same except no taillight on the medium box. Do you have to order? Maybe bring your Big Buddy and LX-3 into a dealer to "size things up".
Dakota Iceman
Yea....thats kind of a problem. None of the dealers actually stock anything in south dakota, most all the products are special order. I dont mean to start a whole new topic but I am running into a dilemma: My current set-up has my Jiffy stealth on the back rack (one of those cabelas auger racks). I dont believe I can move it to the front rack because of space concerns, the front rack on a honda rancher is not very big or wide. So now...Im trying to figure out what to do with my auger. I thought I saw that a auger mount is available for the monster box but i really dont know where it would go and I havent seen any pictures of one mounted. I keep falling deeper and deeper into the swirling vortex!!! This whole situation started with trying to find a good way to carry the big buddy heater securely...last year I used two bungy cords and just strapped it onthe front rack...it worked and I may just have to go back to that set-up as with shipping the medium box will be well over 300.00. I would like to keep the lx-3 secure as well and my otter magnum can really take a beating going up down the rip rap getting onto and off the missouri river...hence gear likes to end up all over the place when I get to my spot or back to the truck. I know...I know..its a rough problem to have, I guess im just not thinking all the alternatives through. LOL.... the hazards of being an Ice maniac!!! Dave
Hold on there, Iceman! You must not have seen my Otter ATV then. All my gear fits ON the ATV, in the Monster Box. You'll notice how the LX-3 tucks back into the Monster Box front corner on one side and my Marcum camera in the other corner. Monster Box Equipped Sportsman The Ice Shield slides right onto the side of the Monster Box. Same with the bucket holder.
