Jim Harnett
here's my story, bought a "portable" 4x8(opened) last year at a garage sale for 30 bucks, basically like new, not a hole in it (canvas)and the plastic windows are still clear, but this thing ain't lite, so what I want to do, "on the cheap" is build something to drag it out on the ice say maybe the length of a football field, at least till I can get the truck out, I'd be traveling as light as I can mostly just a sunflower and spud bar, I am really open to all and any thoughts, in fact I been sratching my head about using a plastic chaise lounge that I should toss in the recycling, so if it sounds good and is cheap I'm game for just about anything
Ryan_V
when I had a suitcase style portable, I built a sled up off of a pair of used skis from play it again sports. I paid $10 for the skis, and used scrap lumber I had in my garage to build up off of it. Pretty easy, and tons easier bringing the portable out on the ice, especially if there is any snow!! Northlander
I would do just like Rryan said. I have seen a lot of guys with that set up and it works great. Make the sides a bit (maybe 10-16") higher than your house is deep and that will allow buckets etc. to go on top of your house and not slide off. ATM
This will cost a bit more than the last idea but when i had a suit case style house i just bought the small otter sled put all my gear inside of it then layed my suitcase on top. I put a rope on the sled and suitcase and was very mobile like this. Adam
Dennis Steele
The old downhill ski trick works great. "Back in the day" when ice anglers made everything themselves, I had quite a few garage sale ski rigs. They work great even in medium depth snow. Heck I still buy ski's at garage sales, when I see them for under 20 bucks. I have two pair in the shed now waiting for a project.
