Winterizing boat and motor

I want to save money and winterize by boat and four stroke motor this year--I've never done it before. What do I need to do...issues I need to address?

Ya know, I do this stuff every year and am going to continue to do it, but...

I have a friend that does not. His boat and motor is much older than mine and has had zero problems at all with it.

Just a stroke of luck on his part?
