Turnover...

I was out on Waconia and Minnetonka this weekend. I noticed that most of the weeds are dead or dying. Is this a sign that turnover has taken place? I know that last year turnover happened around this time... how can one be totally sure that turnover has occured.

What are some succussful patterns to use after turnover? Last year I caught my first muskie after turnover speed trolling a bucktail, but I hear guys talk about deep trolling cranks, throwing jerkbaits, or even jigging. This weekend I tried jerkbaits, bucktails, speedtrolling, and soft plastics all to no avail (zero fish moved).

The reason I bring up this topic is because one of my close friends is coming up this week and I would really like to see him get his first muskie. He has put in the time and I am hoping this is the week he reaps the benefits. We will probly be out on Waconia or Tonka.

Thanks!

Cupper, I was out in Wisconsin, Rice Lake area, And the lake I fish for 'Skies was in the process of turning, or just turned. 54-56 water temp. Did not even get a follow, so I would say this next weekend should be good to go. Deep cranks are a very good choice after turn. Hope this helps some. Good Luck!

I don't think turnover has happened anywhere this far south yet. The dormant brown weeds you were seeing are getting very common though. This past weekend I had alot of success finding (by trolling)and fishing green weedbeds on WBL. Hopefully the same will be true for you.

Water temp on wac was 56 on monday, and no action for us not even a follow.. Lots of fish suspended out deep. Indy was the same for us, the only fish we saw porpoised next to the boat but wasnt following our lures! What a kick in the pants..
