delta hunter
I'm kind of confused, do you have to have a undressed duck to take it from a hunting spot to you house? Or is that just if you choose to clean it at one's hunting spot or other then your home?
hanson
Hey Delta_Hunter-How do you want to do it? We have always taken our ducks from the blind to home undressed. The way we clean them is a little lengthier so it is nice to do at home. We pluck the ducks, remove wings & legs, dip in a hot wax bath to remove downy feathers, and then remove head & clean out remainder of bird. This allows you to bake them in the oven and are quite delicious.Even when we breast them out, we bring the whole bird home and breast them out there.Legal or not? I don't kow, thats just how we've always done it.
Guest
I belive you are allowed to field dress them.. a wing, head, and maybe a foot have to be attatched?.. more or less you can gut the birds, and pluck them if you choose. On the other hand.. I dont think its legal to toss the entrails in any body of water.. so they must be disposed of properly.
leechlake
as long as you leave the head and one wing attached to the duck you can do what you want to the duck, pluck, remove innards etc.
The_Duckslayer
Hanson... that is the best way to do them ever! I like to take chopped green, yellow, and red peppers, celery and onion mix it all up with some sage, salt and pepper stuff that into the duck. Then in a covered creamic dish put them in the oven at noon at about 200 degrees. Round about 6 hours later you will have the finest meal that you have ever eaten! Wood duck is my favorite! I love them things! However the next nice drake woodie that I get I am having mounted in memory of my dad. delta hunter
what I meant by my question is, after a person is done hunting for the day, does a duck have to be undressed or can just put them in your truck and go home with every attached to the duck yet(feathers,head,wing,etc..)? Sorry, when I first posted this subject I was pretty tired so things typed out kinda funny!!!
mechanictim
Yes you can take a duck home with all the parts intact as long as it is dead. Many people have birds done as mounts by taxidermists and the only way to get them looking good is to leave them intact for the taxidermist. It is illegal to clean birds and leave the feathers and carcass at or on a waterfowl production area or other state area.
