backlash 1
I have a pair of 600 gram mad dog rubber boots that I thought were supposed to be scent free. Anyway if you sniff the top of the boots you can smell rubber. I can't help but think this is a foreign smell that will spook deer, am I right or wrong? Gofishleech
I have the alfa's by lacrosse and when they were new they really smelt of rubber (they say scent free right on the boot). I left them out side, wore them in the water and mud. They still smell a bit of rubber but not as bad. I spray them with sent-a-way when I go to stand and I leave them in my cootainer that has earth scent disk which has worked well, at leaste to my nose. As for the rubber boot not leaving any sent ,,,,well I have had deer smell my trail and I have had deer cross right over my trail but I have not had one that busted me from my sniffing my walking trail (when in site anyway) so I think they work well but you still have to treat them like your hunting clothing. NELS-BELLS
I bought a pair of Rocky rubber boots last year and I know what you mean about the rubber smell. This year they aren't as bad. A week ago I watched 2 adult deer walk directly over the path I walked in on and they never smelled my footsteps. I did eventually get busted by one of the deer when she got downwind of me. Maybe it was the boots. Nels
mechanictim
The big advantage of rubber boots is that they dont absorb foriegn odors from your house or vehicle and leave scent trails in the woods. Any odors that get on them are usually wiped off in the first few yards of walking. As for the rubber odor that comes from the inside of the boots you need to keep applying some kind of scent elimination spray to the inside of the boots and wipe down the outside with some scent wipes. Also the older they get the less they smell like rubber, but even after five or six seasons you can still smell the rubber. If any one knows of a way to get rid of the rubber odor I would like to know how.
