marine_man
Has anyone incorporated a couple of goose decoys into their duck hunting spread? If so... where do you put them... off on their own - at the edge of your spread?Thanks!marine_man
JEV
We through a few goose floaters off to the side of our duck decoys. We try not to mix them right in with the ducks. We had both ducks and geese decoy in this weekend in our spread.JEV
mthunter
We always have both duck and goose decoys out, we generally put the geese on the upwind side of the ducks. We have noticed that the geese are more apt to land in the duck decoys then the ducks are to land in the goose decoys so we set up so the ducks don't have to fly over the geese to land. Not scientific just an observation for where we hunt.

subzero
I alway have both out and also never mix them together. I have had the goose decoys both upwind and down wind of the duck decoys and have not noticed a difference in how the duck react.
LABS4ME
I occassionally mix my mallards and goose decoys, especially as the season wears on. Ever go to a park or refuge and see the ducks and geese swim totally seperate? They feed, mill around and sleep as one big group. I think it actually brings security. We set out 2-3 dozen floater honkers (both feeding and regular styles) mix in 1-2 dozen mallards (turn half the heads to look like they are preening) mix in 2-3 goose butts and a half dozen mallard butts, then put a couple dozen goose and mallard decoys on shore if it naked or shallow. We use feeding, resting sleeping decoys. If it is possible we even use full body mallards and geese. We have had incredible results! How many 2-3 dozen mallard + 6 geese to the side spreads have these birds looked at? One of my favorite ways to do this spread is on a pond that is along a pasture or sand bar on the river and set out the above spread and layout in a camo canoe or finisher blind. DEADLY!Good luck!Ken
wyldewal
I always put out my goose decoys when I duck hunt, usually off by themselves up wind of my ducks. That way the geese have to fly past the blind to get to them.
joe_stack20
I always will throw a few goose floaters out in the water, when we throw them out, we put them out on the outer most edge of the spread, for 2 reasons, 1. How often do you see geese hugging tight to shore, and 2. I dont wanna throw them in with the duck dekes, seems i get more birds to flare away from my spread that way. Hope this helps!!!
