Bear trach ?

Recommended Posts

I was out scouting for deer last week and came across a bear track that was aprox 5 inch wide and 5 or 6 inch long. How big would you say this bear is. I have seen some other tracks much smaller and figgerd they were small cubs but this one I know has to be pretty big. Any ideas.

Cant wait till next year. Im going to start baiting and give it a try.

With only a couple weeks left to hunt bears would it be worth it to start trying this year? And no I have never bear hunted before so I dont knmow how much work it is. This is why im asking.

Thanks for any help.

Judging by the length of the track, you were looking at the hind foot. It is a better judge using the front foot. A 5 inch pad can be anywhere from 190lbs, to 350lbs. It all depends on the bear and the amount of food they get. Another good thing to look at is the size of the toes, bigger the toes bigger the bear. It also all depends on the conditions you found it in, ie sugar sand, mud, even snow.

It might be a little late to get a bait fired up for this year. Most bear by us are traveling now to different food sources and leaving the baits alone.
