Remington
Hello there,I was curious as to the rules on the rivers for waterfowl hunting. I live close to a river and have always thought of giving it a try, but wasn't sure if you could just find some backwaters anywhere as long as you are away from structures the minimum distance. Does anybody out there hunt rivers or know how to hunt them legally? Thanks
FOOT
Boy what a question. I've hunted the Miss. for many many years. The main channel is the boundry for most of the Miss. that is it seperates Wisc. from Mn. While you can legally fish from one side of the river to the other you cna only hunt on your side of the Miss. from the main channel to the shore. There are 2 places down by LeCresent that are anomalies. The laws state "from the old raft channel to the shore" This means you must find a map that shows where the old raft channel is/was to be sure you are legal. One is located just South of Wild Cat Landing by Brownsville. The other I can't remember where it is.You will need to be 500' from any permanent structure where you do not have permission. Also make sure you are not hunting in a waterfowl refuge.Other then what I've mentioned you shuld be OK other then to make sure you don't trespass on land getting to the backwaters.
