Chokes??

The Yeti

Recommended Posts

Anyone. I have a Benelli which came with 5 chokes. I pretty much use improved cylinder and modified. Was just wondering what chokes could be used for what. Here is what I have: Improved Cylinder steel or lead, Modified steel or lead, Cylinder (the choke says hsolist?) steel or lead, Full lead only and Improved Modified lead only. What are your thoughts? Which would you use for what. Ducks? Grouse? and Trap shooting?

You really need to go pattern you gun for the type of shot you plan on using. Go to a range and set up a large sheet of paper, test each choke to see which one gives you the best pattern, usually around 30 inches at 30 yards.

Use the IC for close shots and trap and either the IC or Modified for ducks and steel shot. I bought a briley Light modified choke for a SBE and found it patterns the best with lead and steel shot. It is between the Improved cylinder and modified choke. Briley also makes a extended ported choke thad reduces recoil and muzzle rise, I think it would work great when using the heavy goose loads.

I shoot a benelli SBE, where i shoot my modified for ducks and pheasants and the full for those late season birds, granted this is in ND where i could use lead shot. I bought a pattern master choke for geese and would recommend nothing esle.

Good luck this year
