2006 Deer firearm season

I know it's 6 months early to ask this, but here goes. MN. firearm deer season (Zone 1A) normally includes 3 weekends and closes the last Sunday before Thanksgiving. In 2006 Thanksgiving falls on the last day (30th) of the month. The 3 weekends prior to that would put the opener on Nov. 11th. A co-worker says that will not happen becasue it would be too late for the rut and therefore will open on Nov. 4th. There is nothing on the DNR HSOforum this early. Does anyone have any insight as to what it may be. The competition at work for vacation time is instense.

Deer season has started on the first weekend in November as long as I remember but you have a very good question if they are going off the weekend before Thanksgiving. sorry I can't help out with this one.

I sent an email to the DNR and asked the same question. The response (From Kevin) was very fast. He said: The 2006 opener will be on Nov. 4th. It is always the closest Sat to Nov 6th, but can never be on the 1st or 2nd NOR can it be any later than the 9th.

You don't need to email anyone, the seasons are set by Minnesota Rules §6232.1300 SEASONS FOR TAKING DEER BY FIREARMS. The rule states that the season starts the Saturday closest to November 6th, it has absolutely nothing to do with Thanksgiving.

The opener is November 5th this year and will be November 4th next year, unless they drastically change the whole structure of our deer seasons.
